Restoration programs are motivated by environmental awareness and the increasing value people are attaching to “pristine” environments. However, one essential problem and challenge in restoration efforts is the lack of knowledge about previous conditions and long-term processes of environmental patterns and disturbance, especially when caused by human impacts. For instance, all ecosystems in forests and river landscapes have been affected by people in various ways, and to different degrees, and uses have changed over time. The understanding of the long-term integration between society and nature is therefore of importance. By using different historical records and biological archives the knowledge of how different ecosystems have changed over time can be compiled. This information can be used to verify previous conditions and processes and then used as targets for ecosystem restoration, for instance in order to identify and quantify change and loss of ecological structures and key-habitats. \r\n\r\n","nyckelord":null,"scbForskningsämneKod":null,"scbForskningsämneNamn":null,"formasÄmnesområde":null,"hållbarhetsmål":null,"diarienummerUtlysning":"2004-00723","utlysningTitel":"Utlysning av resebidrag","beviljatDatum":"2004-03-03T00:00:00","projektStart":"2006-01-01T00:00:00","projektSlut":"2006-06-30T00:00:00","beviljatBidrag":15000,"medelsförvaltareNamn":"Umeå universitet","medelsförvaltareOrgnr":"202100-2874","status":"Avslutad","ansökansId":10234047,"senastÄndrad":"2006-01-24T00:00:00"}
